Freedom Fund dinners are an avenue not only to raise the required to continue the fight but also an opportunity to remind the communities they serve that the NAACP is still relevant. \nOur Speaker \nSkye Berger is a multifaceted professional with extensive experience in youth work\, resiliency building\, healing from trauma\, addiction recovery\, environmental justice\, and supportive housing advocacy. Skye’s unique approach is deeply informed by her background as a child welfare caseworker and program developer\, where she encountered firsthand the complex intersections of trauma\, housing instability\, and other systemic barriers.

Talking Tombstones aims to bring local history to life by having actors portray notable figures from the community’s past at their gravesites. This is typically done in a cemetery where these figures are buried. \nDuring the event\, attendees walk from tombstone to tombstone\, and at each stop\, an actor delivers a monologue or a brief scene. These performances are scripted from historical records to accurately reflect the individual’s life and impact on the community. The aim is to educate participants about local history memorably and interactively\, making it more accessible and engaging than traditional methods might. \nThis type of event provides educational value and helps raise awareness and funds for the preservation of local historical sites and cemeteries. It will draw a diverse crowd\, from residents to history buffs\, and provide a unique cultural offering that enhances community engagement with their heritage.
